The quality of citizens determine the strength of a democratic country like India. Voting- The citizens of India should be heedful towards their votes in order to continue to develop in the right direction because this vote is a vital tool which determines the kind of government which comes in power. 'To vote wisely' is the duty of an electorate and he or she has to exercise their right to vote without the fear or favor to have a real democracy, because a rightly casted vote will help in digging out corruption from public life.

Our country is going down because of the instability of the leaders, the elected candidates should have an appealing personality, merit and character, which we lack. At every stage we have political corruption as well as crime because of the self-seeking nature of the leaders who has no moral, no honesty nor a personality. When our country is facing with such conditions, the responsibility of voters kick in.

In fact it is each and every voter's duty to find out all about each candidate's record of achievement in public life, personal honesty and sense of service. Voters should be in a position to decide which parties and candidates are genuinely committed in working for country's welfare and if they have satisfied their previous election promises or not. No temptation, greed or threat should stand in the way of their conscience while voting.

However, the importance of voter education is to be considered in the process of voting. The high rates of illiteracy and ignorance among the huge sections of the population, especially in rural areas is to be taken into account. The Election Commission of India has felt that it is much needed that voters of India should be educated and trained about a thing or two keeping in mind the illiteracy and ignorance rates. To educate the voters, it employed the National Literacy Mission. In the process of educating the voting masses, the Election Commission of India has awarded the National Literacy Mission with the status of its partner for its benevolent duty and Assistance.

This process of education among voters will ensure their participation in the electoral processes of the country and make them aware of their duties to the nation. Awareness among voters will enable the country to achieve a greater voter turnouts during elections, with such effort, ignorance among voters about the poll processes will be minimized. This effort of the Election Commission is being acclaimed by many circles for their complete meticulousness in making elections a more pious and respectable affair with heightened credibility.
