Thailand's Democracy

As we all know the NCPO (national council for peace and order) was the twelfth successful coup since the transition from absolute to constitutional monarchy . The rulers and Thai citizens have been locked in a struggle over sovereignty during electoral democracies, dictatorships and gradations. No junta has been prosecuted for seizing powers and each successive coup has made it easier for next junta to rip up the existing constitution. The struggle took  the form of  color coded politics between the populist democratic red shirts who favored democratic rule and the royalist yellow shirts who favored rule by moral. The struggle between yellow and red shirts hardened and grew violent. Detention, torture, arbitrary arrest and political prosecution took place on a scale not seen since the anti communist dictatorship. Just the night before the military court hearing regarding the renewal of the students detention at Thammasat university  a protest took place. 500-600 people gathered to fold paper cranes, share messages of support for the students and sing songs of solidatary .the crowd did not disperse even after a torrential downpour sent people running for shelter to nearby buildings. When the students walked out behind the bars they promised to lead NDM forward. The NCPO launched a coup in the stated service of returning happiness to the Thai people.

  1. "As we all know" - if know it why should we read your blog post. The post does not have a clear beginning nor an end. What is your post about? No dates about events. It appears like an old news story.
